Nigeria considers recycling roads

Nigeria''s is mooting the possibility of forcing road construction and maintenance companies to recycle asphalt as a means of cutting costs, possibly by up to 50%. The country''s Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (Ferma) has already undertaken experiments with recovered asphalt, which has been recycled as cold asphalt. This has proved to be cost-effective when building new road infrastructure. Future tenders may well therefore include a clause giving preference to those companies who recycle old asphalt. The government believes that if it can cut construction costs by one third this will help it build additional highways.
