Cold in Place Recycling

Pavement Recycling System’s technological advances in equipment and new chemistry with pavement binders make Cold-In Place Recylcing an exciting new option in pavement restoration. The performance characteristics of cold-place recycled pavement rival new hot mix asphalt pavement. Major arterials, secondary roads and highways are now candidates for this process which can potentially save as much as half the cost of traditional mill and fill, or fabric-overlay rehabilitation techniques, and CIR delivers high quality long lasting roads. The CIR process is to mill .25’-.35’ of the existing surfacing and crush that material to a one-inch minus, blended mix- then meter in a specially engineered asphalt emulsion - throughly blend the new binder with the sized and homogenously graded reclaimed asphalt- and lay the recycled paving mix back down with a standard paving machine and crew. Traffic, depending on the mix design, can either be delayed several hours while the mat cures, or if new age binders are used- can be immediately turned back onto the recycled roadway.

Surface treatments can range from a chip seal to a standard asphalt overlay. In addition to the cost savings of a recycled roadway, the benefits of CIR include better retardation of reflective cracking,a decrease in the pavement section’s propensity for thermalcracking, and load -carrying capacity and stability almost equal to virgin hot mix pavements. COLD IN-PLACE RECYLING has come of age and
is probably the best strategy for effective rehabilitation of worn asphalt surfaces.
