Nigeria: Govt Unveils Asphalt Plant

As part of efforts to boost road construction and rehabilitation in the country, a multi million naira Asphalt plant with capacity to produce 1000 tons of asphalt per day has been commissioned in Ogun State .

The plant known as Nahman Gateway, according to a statement issued by the Press Officer to the Governor, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, was also capable of providing job opportunities for over 200 people at full capacity.

Commissioning the plant which is located in the new Flower Gate Industrial Estate along Sagamu interchange-papalanto road, the state Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel said the name of the company Nahman Gateway was part of the strategic linkages between the state government and the private sector, with the state owing 40 per cent investment in the company.

He said investment in such plant was in response to the day-to-day construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state, urging the agencies of government in charge of roads to patronize the plant "whenever you are constructing or rehabilitating roads within 20-30 K.M from the location of this plant as it would be economically viable to patronise the plant".

The governor said works would soon commence on the rehabilitation of Papalanto- Owode- Ilaro road, adding that the Sagamu-Siun- Kobape-Abeokuta road would be re-asphalted to make it stand the test of time.

According to him, over 40,000 tons of asphalt would be required for re-asphalting the Sagamu-Siun Abeokuta dual carriage way, explaining that the road was deliberately commissioned to allow for compaction of the initial asphalting.

His words: " What we have done on the Sagamu-Siun-Abeokuta road was the initial asphalt overlay to allow for compaction, use it for 2 years and see area of challenges before we do the final asphalt overlay which would commence soon," he said.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Nahman Gateway Asphalt plant, Otunba Alex Onabanjo, said the plant was fully automated with capacity to produce 1000 tons per day with an average of two tons every 45 seconds, adding that it was 100 per cent environmental-friendly.

"This is yet another promise of the present administration in Ogun State being fulfilled in the area of employment generation and attraction of new business into the State", said the chairman.
