Recycling Environmental Friendly Asphalt From Used Tyres

Yesterday, College of Architectural Science & Engineering of Yangzhou University announced that, their science research team, which leaded by Pro. Xiao Peng, has successfully recycled environmental friendly asphalt from used tyres. The recyclied asphalt has the characteristics of resisting flexibility, deformation, cracking, and reducing environment pollution caused by waste & old tyres. Compared with conventional asphalt, the cost of the pavement with recycled asphalt will save about 90%. Thus this technology finished the science and technology tackle key problem of province project committee.

It is introduced that conventional asphalt may be soft in hot summer and be hard even cracking in cold winter, which will lead to reduction in driving conformability and safety and increase in ullage of the vehicles. The preparing process of environmental friendly asphalt is as follows: grinding the used tyers to rubber powder, and adding them to conventional asphalt, and then preparing through high speed cutting and mixing under high-temperature and high-pressure in special mixing machine. The testing result on the Yangtse Road shows that its high-temperature resistance increases by 1.5 times compared with conventional asphalt pavement. The new style asphalt pavement has strong elastic recovery and has the similar performance to the ABS pavement.

It is known that, at present, the price of the ABS applied in highway is over 30 thousand RMB per ton. While the price of the tyres rubber powder used to replace ABS is only thousand RMB per ton. Therefore, it can save cost by about 90%. In addition, the used types were treated by burying or burning, which will pollute the environment. While the environmental friendly asphalt is recycled from used tyres, which not only can effectively solve the problem of disposing waste & old tyres, but also effectively reduce environment pollution caused by used tyres.
