Youth baseball and softball players who utilize the Waynesville City Park will have upgraded fields to use, thanks in part to a donation by Willard Asphalt Paving. Willard Asphalt Paving donated labor and equipment to renovate the baseball/softball fields at the Waynesville City Park. “They donated equipment, work and labor totaling several thousand dollars,” said Rick Sallee, Waynesville Park Superintendent. “And it has really made a difference on those fields. “They scraped the ground, laid out the dimensions of the infield, laid top soil and they crowned it for draining purposes. They even stayed around and helped us put bases in.” The work was done during the month of May, and the result will be improved facilities for this summer’s youth league and tournament play. Game-Ready The fields are currently ready for the start of the youth games that, according to Sallee, will begin after Memorial Day. “The fields are in the best shape I’ve seen them in the 13 years I’ve been employed at the city,” Sallee said. “Bradley Willard said he was doing this for the people who have to maintain the fields and, most importantly, for the kids who will use them. He said if these fields can keep just one kid from using drugs, the work donated was certainly worth it. “The park staff of the City of Waynesville really appreciate what Mr. Willard has done. The city, the park board and the kids of the community all want to thank Mr. Willard for his efforts.” |
