Concrete Price Hikes Gain Momentum

Producers of ready-mix concrete pushed prices up for the third consecutive month. April started with a 1.4% average price hike for 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000-psi concrete. This follows monthly increases of 0.6% in March and 0.8% in February. The combined monthly increases have kept prices 5.8% above a year ago. This compares to year-to-year increases of 7.0% in April 2006 and 3.8% in April 2005. Portland cement prices rose another 0.2% this month, capping a nine-month increase that has left prices 6.5% above a year ago.
