Challenger: a tall order

Turkish company E-Mak, which manufactures aggregate equipment and asphalt plants, made a big impact on its second visit to Intermat.

In 2003, the company had a small stand, but at the 2006 event it was promoting its 25m high Challenger, which was transported from Turkey on eight trucks, a journey that took five days.
Maggoteaux, for which E-Mak is Turkish distributor, transported the unit''s vertical impact shaft crusher from its Belgian base.

"The Challenger is the result of ten years of research and development studies at E-Mak, based on the previous experience of Sigme Group companies in road construction and asphalt production fields," says Ali Sevilmis, sales coordinator with E-Mak.

"You can integrate the Challenger system into any asphalt plant in the world. The Challenger crushes the aggregate material using a carefully selected type of crusher within its compact and close cycle, sieves and then sends these hot dry aggregates to the dryer drum at the required gradation sizes.

"If you don''t have any humidity in the aggregates, as with the Challenger, we estimate an energy saving of 35%. For good quality asphalt production it only needs aggregates of 15-20mm if they come from natural material rocks, or 25-70mm if they come from stone quarries."

The Challenger has a 250tonnes/hr capacity, and the company also produces asphalt plants with capacities from 160tonnes/hr up to 300tonnes/hr.

"Since 2005 we have seen a 92% increase in our sales," says Ali Sevilmis.

Sales have included seven 160tonnes/hr asphalt plants to Syria; a similar plant to a private company in northern Iraq, and another in Kazakhstan.

The company is also hoping to conclude a deal for the sale of two Challengers in Turkey.
