Petersen Asphalt Research Conference

The Petersen Asphalt Research Conference (July 16-18) brings together top researchers, highway officials, producers and others who are working to advance the specification and performance of petroleum asphalts. For more than 40 years, research presented and discussed at the Petersen Asphalt Research Conference has led to safer, longer-lasting and more cost-effective highways throughout the world.

The Pavement Performance Prediction Symposium (July 18-20) immediately following the Petersen Conference allows conference participants to dedicate two more days to a single key aspect of pavement performance.

What makes the Petersen Asphalt Research Conference unique?

From fundamental research to field trials, the Petersen Conference is the essential forum for sharing and discussing current research now.
Presentations at the Petersen Conference typically precede formal publication by one or two years. Since no conference proceedings are published, researchers may freely share new results, which keeps the Petersen Conference (and participants) at the forefront of the field.
The Conference promotes understanding of how asphalt chemistry, physical properties and interactions affect the performance of asphalt applications throughout their life cycle.
Specifications, testing, instrumentation, methods and technology to improve performance are often introduced here.
Open microphone discussion time is built into each presentation, which keeps sessions engaging, participatory, and valuable for audience members and presenters alike.
This conference is a must for highway materials specialists, additives producers, roofing manufacturers and anyone else whose job depends on knowing how asphalts will perform in a given application over time.
The genial atmosphere at the conference further contributes to opportunities for learning and networking.
The Petersen Conference will be held at the University of Wyoming Washakie Center in Laramie.

The conference includes a Continental breakfast Monday through Wednesday, lunch on Monday and Tuesday, dinner on Tuesday, and snacks and beverages at all breaks. Guests of conference participants are welcome to attend Tuesday night’s dinner.

Participants may register for both the Petersen Asphalt Research Conference and the Pavement Performance Prediction Symposium or either one separately; however most opt to take advantage of the week’s full offerings.

Wyoming is known for its fine summer weather, so many who come to Laramie also plan to extend their visit to include time in the mountains of the Snowy Range or fishing in world-class trout streams nearby.
